John A. Dominique studied and worked in California during the formative years of early California art. His major teachers were recognized masters in their day, and today are widely collected. Many of the artists he painted with are now in a process of rediscovery, as Westerners learn that they do have a rich and significant art heritage.

Dominique and his fellow artists were dedicated to landscape painting in the plein air tradition --Dominique avows that he "always worked directly from nature" and "never created a landscape in the studio". To find fresh subjects, he sought out the incomparable scenery to fhte coastal areas and the interior of Northern and Southern California. To read more about John A.
